Case Study: Joint Commission Credentials for Contractors

Southern Ohio Medical Center went through a Joint Commission mock audit recently.  While The Joint Commission was onsite at SOMC, they saw a vendor come through with his Vendormate badge.   The auditor asked SOMC about the badge and the service behind it.

The auditor was impressed with all the credential checks performed by Vendormate, how the information is stored online and easily retrieved, and the unique vendor badge for identification.

The auditors then went to HR and asked if they had the similar information about contractors as they had for vendors.  Here’s an excerpt of what the auditors and SOMC want to know about their contractors.

The Procedure

The leader must determine the qualifications and competencies required by the contract staff ….  All documentation must be submitted to Human Resources upon contract with employee and once annually during July through October of each year.

The Introductory Checklist (adbridged)

  • TB test
  • Health status as required by job and as required by law and regulation;
  • Criminal background check or pre-employment verification, when required by law and regulation;
  • Verification of education, professional license, certification, or registration, if applicable;
  • References, when applicable;
  • Competence assessment during orientation
  • Organizational and departmental orientation

The auditors were impressed that SOMC had a system like Vendormate VISION in place for vendor credentialing.  HR was equally impressed and decided to get all of its contractors and service reps into a Vendormate system to easily store, credential, and retrieve this type of information.   They are excited that credentialing their contractors and service reps through Vendormate will save them the man hours it took to do it manually.

NOTE:   If you’re a hospital interested in tracking credentials about contracted staff, students, or volunteers, Vendormate’s ID Confirm may be the right service for you. Learn more about ID Confirm on line or by talking to a representative.

Entry filed under: Joint Commission, vendor credentials.
